Built to face the sun

Outdoor slabs get direct UV that indoor floors never see. We use UV-stable topcoats so the color holds instead of chalking, fading, or yellowing after a season in the Texas sun.

Slip resistance where it counts

Wet patios and pool decks are a fall risk. We blend a slip-resistant aggregate into the topcoat, choosing the texture level for the area, from a subtle grip on a porch to a heavier profile around a pool.

Handles wet-dry movement

Outdoor concrete expands and contracts through heat, rain, and clay-soil cycles. A properly prepped, flexible coating moves with minor slab shifts instead of cracking and lifting off the surface.

Covers stains and tired concrete

Grey, stained, or pitted outdoor concrete can be ground, repaired, and coated in a color you choose. Rust stains, oil, and weathering get sealed under the finish rather than scrubbed at every spring.

Patio and outdoor concrete coatings for Conroe homes

An outdoor slab in Conroe takes a beating that an indoor floor never sees. Full sun fades and chalks cheap finishes. Rain and humidity keep the surface wet for long stretches. Clay soil swells and shrinks under the slab through the seasons, and every joint and crack is exposed to it. An outdoor concrete coating has to be built for those conditions or it will not last.

We coat patios, porches, pool decks, walkways, and driveways around Montgomery County with UV-stable, slip-resistant systems. The goal is a surface that looks finished, drains well, grips when wet, and does not fade out after one summer.

Why outdoor coatings fail here

Most outdoor coating failures come from the same short list. Sunlight breaks down a coating that is not UV-stable, so it fades and powders. Water gets under a coating that was applied over a wet or poorly prepped slab and lifts it. Slabs that were sealed or painted before cannot bond a new coating. And a smooth, glossy finish on a wet pool deck is a slip hazard no matter how good it looks.

We handle each of those during prep and material selection. We grind or strip to bare, sound concrete, repair cracks and joints, test the slab, and choose a UV-stable topcoat with the right texture for the area.

Outdoor prep also has to account for drainage. A patio that slopes toward the house, or a deck that pools water in a low spot, will keep a coating wet and shorten its life. Where the slope is off, we address it before coating rather than sealing water against the slab. On covered porches, the concern shifts to how sun and rain hit the edges, which is where coatings tend to fail first.

Our outdoor coating process

Outdoor work follows the same disciplined sequence as an indoor floor:

  1. On-site evaluation. We measure, assess stains and old coatings, check cracks and joints, and test for moisture.
  2. Surface preparation. We grind or strip the concrete back to a clean, open profile and edge-detail around walls and steps.
  3. Repair. Cracks, control joints, and spalled edges are filled and leveled.
  4. Priming. A primer goes down where the slab needs it to promote adhesion and block moisture.
  5. Base coat. A UV-stable colored base is applied across the surface.
  6. Topcoat and texture. A UV-stable topcoat with slip-resistant aggregate is rolled on, with the texture matched to the area.

Options and finishes

Outdoor work leaves a lot of room for design. You can match the house color, pick a tan or grey that stays cooler in the sun, or add a flake blend for extra texture. Pool decks can get a heavier grip profile, while a covered porch might take a lighter finish. Beyond color, think about how the slab drains and how it meets adjoining surfaces. On driveways and larger aprons we pay extra attention to expansion joints and slope, so water moves away instead of pooling on the coating.

Another choice is how the patio ties into the rest of the yard. A coated slab can pick up a color from the house trim or the pool tile, or stay neutral so plants and furniture carry the color. We bring samples so you can see the finish against your actual surroundings in different light, since outdoor color shifts a lot from morning to late afternoon.

What outdoor coatings cost in Conroe

Outdoor concrete coatings generally run from $1,200 to $3,500 for a typical patio. Square footage, the condition of the concrete, whether an old coating must be removed, and the slip-resistance level you choose all move the price. Pool decks, driveways, and heavy crack repair sit at the higher end.

We quote after an on-site look, since sun exposure, drainage, and slab condition vary a lot from one yard to the next.

For a single patio this is usually a two- to three-day project, weather permitting. Rain is the main scheduling factor outdoors, so we watch the forecast and build in a window after the final coat before we call it done.

FAQ

Patio & Outdoor Concrete Coatings questions

Can I coat a patio that is already painted or sealed?

Usually the old coating has to be removed first, because paint and sealers stop a new coating from bonding. We grind or strip it back to bare concrete, repair what is underneath, and then coat. If the old finish is sound and compatible we test adhesion before deciding.

Will an outdoor coating get too hot to walk on barefoot?

The color matters. Lighter colors and some aggregate blends stay cooler underfoot than dark ones. If the slab gets full sun, we steer you toward lighter tones and can discuss heat-reflective options so a pool deck stays comfortable.

How slippery is a coated pool deck?

We add slip-resistant aggregate to the topcoat, and we can increase the texture around a pool or any area that stays wet. Done right, a coated deck is far safer when wet than bare, sealed, or painted concrete.

Do you coat driveways or just patios?

We coat both. Driveways see hot tires, UV, and de-icing or runoff, so the system is built a little heavier than a covered porch. On larger slabs we also address expansion joints and cracks during prep.
